Industrial
For over 90 years, Rocky Mountain Air has served the industrial gas community by providing welding gases and supplies to customers who need a reliable, responsive partner. In addition to acetylene manufacturing, we offer multiple arc welding gases, oxyfuel, and plasma arc cutting gases.
Acetylene
Acetylene has a low moisture content, making it ideal for various welding and heating applications, such as gouging, hardening, bending, straightening, brazing, cutting, cleaning and more. Acetylene and oxygen combined create a neutral flame for welding that neither oxidizes nor carburizes. As the hottest burning flame in oxyfuel welding, acetylene is one of the most efficient gases to use. It improves cut quality, increases cutting speed, and reduces oxygen, thus preventing metals from rusting.
Oxygen
Oxygen in the steel industry is an optimal assistant to dealing with scrap metal to be recycled for other uses. Heating and melting scrap metal with oxy-fuel burners prepares it to be used in the transportation industry for airplanes and automobiles, and to manufacture containers, appliances, and tools. The process for converting iron ore into steel uses oxygen to combine with a carbon and sulfur molecule, producing carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide. Oxygen processes in the steel industry allow for iron ore to be melted at an increased rate. Depending on the application, a higher purity of oxygen is necessary to combat rusting or other damage to the finished product.
Argon
Argon is most used in the metal industry for metal production, processing, and fabrication, but it can be used as a pure gas for certain shielding, blanketing, annealing, and hot isostatic pressing applications. It can also be used as part of a mixture with other gases, in particular carbon dioxide, oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen, or helium, depending on the process and material. It also plays a very important role as a purge gas in the production of solar panels.
Hydrogen
Nearly all the hydrogen consumed in the United States is used by industry for refining petroleum, treating metals, producing fertilizer, purifying glass, and processing foods. Hydrogen is also used in steel making and for fuel cells. Hydrogen fuel cells for machinery, construction, and warehouse equipment is a unique option because unlike their electric counterparts, they can perform for much longer. Hydrogen fueling systems can be installed onsite, taking up minimal space and meeting an immediate need.
Carbon Dioxide
Carbon dioxide is an important component in industrial applications, used to make acids, polymers, carbonates, and syntheses for adhesives, bonding agents, pharmaceuticals, and the production of plastics. As a chemical feedstock, CO2 is a renewable energy source that can be used in place of organic substances such as minerals, water, and wood.
In addition to gases, Rocky Mountain Air can outfit your crew with supplies such as protective safety gear, industrial accessories, and hardware, including torches, tips, valves, regulators, and much more.
